Verbatim DVD-R
An interesting point has come up about verbatim dvd-r.
I tried them a whil back after reading several recomends. I burned them on a pioneer a-04 drive. Out of five I got no results. Two crapped out in mid burn while the other three were unreadable in my version 5 and 7 ps2. Still I hear good things about them. I assumed that verbatim did several different types of dvd-r with different dye's but it turns out that they don't. They all use one dye. However u can get dvd-r with normal flipside (i.e silver with brandname on) or inkjet printable ones (very white flipside). The inkjet printable ones have a lighter write surface because of the transparency of dvd-r's and don't seem to work as well. Admitedly I was using a primative firmware on my dvd writer so have ordered another batch of inkjet printable dvd-r's and will test with firmware 1.31 and 1.4 with X1 and X2 burn speed on GTAViceCity and depending on results will then go on to non inkjet printable ones. For the mo I would recomend that u use the non ink jet printable ones as they have a darker write surface although they use the same dye and PS2 seems to thrive on darker write surface. Regards and if anyone can add to this please do!!

Its possible you just got a bad batch of media, i got about 50 backups on TDK media and never had any problems yet i just got a 100 pack that maybe 1 out of every 5 disc will produce a quality backup.

I hve only used Verbatim dvd-r and Ritek dvd-r without any problems. When I first started out burning dvd-r i used verbatim and never had any problems. Now i use Riteks since they are cheaper. I also have the Pioneer 104 and a V7 PS2.
