Yet another Sims post...

I am having a problem playing Superstar on my laptop. It gives me a fatal error(Sims directory not found) message when I try to start it(I can get to the screen that says "play" but when it starts the message appears). It didn't give me any error messages when I installed it on the laptop(said it was installed successfully), and works perfect on my desktop computer. Let me explain. First off, I have legal copies of all the Sims games, but my dog got a hold of Unleashed and broke it! I tried to uninstall the Sims from the laptop(what a mistake!) and decided that was not what I wanted to do(I figured I would just wait until Superstar came out and install it so I could use the Superstar disc to play). I tried to restore the laptop to an earlier date, which brought the Maxis folder back, I installed Superstar, and it acts like it wants to start but displays that fatal error message. Did I delete something I shouldn't have? What can I do? I know I could uninstall all of it and start over, but my wife likes the animals and stuff from Unleashed, which I do not have anymore!(I still have it, just in a few pieces ). Can I delete all the files and folders in the Maxis folder(but save the actual Maxis folder) on my laptop, copy all the files from the desktop Maxis folder and insert them on the laptop? Would it work? I really don't want to lose the features from Unleashed, and don't want to have to buy another one! I am familiar with computers, but far from being a pro. Could you give a step by step if possible or tell me if the method above would work? Thanks.

EDIT: I did not try to uninstall from the desktop, which is why it is working. Should I try to locate the "Sims directory" file(s) on the desktop, copy them, and insert them in the same folder on the laptop?

EDIT 2: We could play Sims: Unleashed perfectly on laptop before dog got a hold of disc and I tried to uninstall!
