Which ver. ?
what is the best version of ps2 to mod? i know anything before a ver. 4 and including the ver. 4 is no good. but what about 5,6,7,8? and in which order would you recomend?

Well, the majority of places are carrying the v7 mods as standard issue. The "works on all versions" mods tend to carry a bit of a price premium due to a more complex program to be burnt onto them.
If I had my druthers, I'd always work on v7's. v8's are too untested as of yet. - Gurm

I wouldn't mod anything lower than a v5.
