xbox hardrive

are xbox hard drives locked to the xbox they were fitted or can they they be fitted in someone elses xbox whose hard drive has died.

Xbox drives are locked to the motherboard thay come with.
You can use a difrent Xbox drive but youwill have to unlock it first.

put an 80gig in my xbox,so because my original xbox h/d is locked to my motherboard its not much good for anyhing else then.thanks for the info.

u gotta have a modchip that allows it

I've already got an 80gig fitted,I should have been more clearer my question was whether i could put my original h/d into someones xbox which is unchipped and has a faulty hard drive.

But if you unlock the HD, then you could install it in another Xbox. Install a no solder mod chip in it, just long enough to relock the HD again.
