KRONIK
V4 Problem

I was trying to mod my ps2 I took it apart but reliazed it was a v4 motherboard so I put everything back togeather and when I tried to play a game it came to the browser screen and said can't read disk I haven't tried a music cd yet but I have tried turning it on and off again could it be possible that some dust got on the laser and I need to just clean the laser or is it porbally a dead lazer thanx for any help

I am by no means an installer, but remove the case and re-check all your connections, especially the cable connecting the disc unit to the board.

I think that Charlie_PS2 has a guide on post install advice.

It is possible that it is other things but my number one suspect would be the cable that goes to the motor to move the laser across the disc. This cable pulls out rather easily and does not have one of those snaps on top of it to hold it in. It is also the shortest going to the board so if the other end of the board isn't supported it is the first to fall out. Listen to your drive, is it spinning the whole time or does it stop?

To tell you the truth the dvd drive doesn't make any noise when I turn the power on so I bet the cable came loose. I'm going to take it apart tonight and find one I'll let you know what happens thanx

a v4 has many extra cables to plug in then a v5 or v7

you say u opened it but didnt try to fit

it must be a cable not plugged in or damaged(ie trapped when closing ps2)
