i went back and checked the bios connections resoldered and made sure theres no bridges and still the same problem. on some of the pads next to the "U" and "V" connections is some solder that im havin a hard time getting off. do these connections have to be absolutly perfect in order to boot as normal?? cuz like i said it'll work behind GS but wont load as normal

Are you talking about the pads that are connected to the bios? If so you should solder wires Q,T,U,V, and R to these pads. Did you look at the backside of the board? Check the wires for the CD\DVD controller. I suspect that if one of the wires related to DVDs came off it could affect your PS2 booting, could be wrong hopefully Dust will have more info. Try a PS2 CD based backup and see what happens.

yeah the pads that are connected to the bios QTUVR those all look good but you know how you solder every other pad..the pads in between have a little coating of solder on them but arent bridged would that still matter? i could go back and check the cd/dvd connections but i doubt theres anything wrong with them.
i still dont understand why it boots with GS but not normally i guess its just a matter of re soldering....

Yeah beleive me I am still learning fromecperience that there are so many things that can happen. You can have a good idea what is wrong but you never know just what it could be. The solder on the pads should make no difference what so ever so long as nothing touches.

well i went through and checked every connection made sure no wires were touching, no bridges, no sloppy solder and still no direct boot luck. well seeing that i jsut recieved my messiah 2 in the mail yesterday i guess i should pull the magic out and begin the process of installing that and hopefully i wont have the same problem
