Question about Origa and AR

Hi everybody,

i have a Pal PS2 (V3), Origa Chip installed and a AR 2 Version 1.3
Can i boot DVD-Rs with it? I read in another forum that not all AR Versions support this. My Version is very old (1.3)
I tried several brands of DVD-R Media (all no-name products)today, but none worked! Is the brand (Verbatim, Princo) that important?
Or maybe i can not boot DVD-Rs with that combination of Origa-AR?
Please help me before i burn a lot of DVD-Rs for nothing!
Thank you

I have a NTSC V3, with Origa and GameShark I can boot everything including DVDR.

Booting DVDR is a bit tricky sometimes with Origa chip, try the following procedrues:

1- Start with everyting off
2- Power on PS2 with main power switch at the back
3- Press Eject button -> open tray
4- Put in your AR
5- Press Eject button -> close tray
6- Press Soft power switch (front switch) to turn off system
7- Wait 2 sec then press Soft Power switch to turn on system
8- Wait till AR boot
9- After AR boot, go to screen where you can choose stat game with/with out code *** but don't press X yet ***
10- Now open tray with Eject button
11- Put backup in *** but don't close tray yet ***
12- now Press X to start game (with or with out code) then close tray right after you press X.

This almost work every time for me and hope it works for you too.

Good luck.

If it still does not work, try wait 10 sec between step 8 and 9.

Thank you for advise, but it doesnīt help!
Besides...if i boot up AR iīm already in the start game screen. My AR Version is very old (Version 1.3), so i think perhaps it doesnīt work with that version! What do you think?
The DVD-R spins like hell for about a minute and hangs up in the AR Loading screen!
I used Traxdata DVD-Rs. I thought that were good ones!
NEED HELP!

Oh Forgot...the game is Zone of the Enders 2 US

Sorry to hear that. I have GS 1.9 and 2.0 and they both work.

I think 1.3 should work as well, the critical point of the booting procedure I have provided is you press X to have AR/GS seeking for game before you close the tray. No matter what version you have, you have this part of the procedrue.

If your DVD-R spins like hell, it seem the media is having the problem. DVD-R should spins just like orignal DVD games.

Try the DVD-R with a friends machine that can boot DVD-R and see if they can boot them.

Try clean your laser len, it may help.

Yeah, but none of my friends has a modded ps2!
Damn!
Perhaps my discription was not so good...when i close the tray, the dvd-r spins and make three or four of these "toc toc" noises, then...nothing!
I booted about 30 times now, but it was always the same!
Maybe another brand?!
The Original NTSC Import just works fine (ZOE2).
I donīt know what i should do now!

Humm... the tocing sound does not sound good at all. Can your PS2 still boot orignal DVD games?

You should really take good care of your laser for now as the tocing sound might indicate the life of your ps2 laser is going to end.

Reduce playing load excessive CDR games (e.g. GTA) will help.

I hope it is the DVDR that you have is having the problem instead of your laser.

I don't burn DVDR games myself but there is good a tour here:

http://www.fileforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=43792

Also I head people using purple bottom Retik DVDR works.

Hi,

i already used a DVD with a purple bottom. One or two toc noises are normal. I got them since i got the PS2 (not second hand, i was the first and only user).
Yes, my PS2 plays Original DVD Games without any problems!
Hmmm..strange!
I try the backup guide (uses NERO by now) and will try to boot up again!
Damn, damn damn!!!
Thank you for your help!
If you know something else...let me know!

I always made a 1:1 copy (NOT on-the-fly of course) with NERO or Record now. I never build an imgage and THEN burnt it back.
I made it a few minutes ago and got THREE *gi files from ZOE2.
1. about 1,4kb size
2. about 422 MB size
3. about 2 Gig sze

I tried to open every file in Record Now bit it always says that it is an invalid global image!!! What should i do now? Whatīs wrong?
Could that be the reason?

You are supposed to burn the small 1.4kb file. Have a look at the tutorial seen in this sticky.

Some people have good luck with Princo, some don't. Your v3 laser might not be able to play dvd-r anymore as these had sh*tty lasers.
