Messiah 2 problem with PS2 CDR
Have installed 3 messiah 2 today, all in version 5's.
2 work flawlessly, the third seems to have trouble loading up PS2 cdr's. The first cdr I put in loads okay, the second and others after wont load, the ps2 either ignores them or screen goes black for a while then comes back with "No Data" followed by red screen of death. It reads PS1 cdr's okay, no problem and also reads PS2 original CD based games, PS2 dvd originals and PS2 dvd-r's no problem. Anyone come across this before????

Every time u switch it off for a while then back on it loads the first PS2 cdr u put in but then won't load any more subsequently.
Even the one that works first time won't work a second time. Wierd!!! Any ideas??!!

Sorry but no clue on that one. Seeing that you are trusty at installs I would suspect a very odd chip. I have a question for you though. When you check the laser using an oscioscope do you use a O/E converter or is there a way to check using the standard probes? Sorry I couldn't help.

cd dvd contontroller be my guess, could be the bios aswell
not alot of help i know check the actel chip for bridging swap the messiah2 for 1 of the working messiah2 u know then if its a install or chip problem only thing i can see being wrong with chip is bridged actel legs (will give same result as bridging the ps2 points)

switching it off waiting a while allows ps2 to cool, could be 2 pionts so close to touching heat cases them to make contact
if u load dvd game play it then load cd based game will it boot cd based game still the first time if u boot cdr based game imeadiately its booted try booting another before it has chance to overheat i finding it hard to think of any other reason why it should boot first time, then no more

Have removed chip completely and made sure ps2 working okay without. Now reinstalled using new wire and exactly the same problem, well worse actually, now I can't even get it to sometimes boot PS2 cdr, it just doesn't boot them at all.
Have a Messiah 1 lying around here, might drop that in and see if that'll boot them, as u said dust, at least it narrows down what is the actual problem! Thanx for replies....

Well, relieved to know it ain't my chipping skills at fault.
Turned out to be a dodgy laser. Dropped in the dvd drive out of mine and it worked perfectly. Tweaked up the cd laser intensity pot a touch and ran a dvd head cleaner through it and it now reads them perfectly. My customer is some what relieved!! Thanx for replies
