Do DVD games need to be patched?
This web forum is great it has helped me out alot so far, but there is one question I can't seam to find the answer to. Do I need to patch the image of a DVD based game before I burn it onto a DVD+r? I am currently using the GameShark to play my backups and am not interested in modding my machine. Any help would be great.
Thanks

The reason that I ask is because in the past I have always had to patch any images that I burned from CD based games onto CDr. They wouldn't work otherwise (or they would half work i.e. load the title screen and then freeze when entering another mode of the game). Has anyone burned a game to a DVD+r and then ran it on a non-modded PS2 using the GameShark?
Thanks again

Don't know if you will find anyone here that has done this, just because it is damaging to the PS2. It can be done though.

That's what some people have said, but I have been using that method for over a year now and have yet to damage my PS2. I think the secret is to be gentle and understand how the disc tray actually works.
I'm just afraid that if I burn an unpatched image to a DVD+r that it is not going to load it correctly. Its been my experience that there is another level of encryption after bypassing the initial loading encryption. I think its later in the code and that's why I've had to patch my images for CD based games to CDr. I think (but I'm not sure) that the mod chips bypass all levels of encryption, but I'm not looking to mod my machine. Thanks

I would think it would work very similar to what I've been doing to make backups of PS2 games in from the CD ROM format. It works great with those games, but can it be done from the DVD format?, that is the true question. Is anyone familiar with with what I'm trying to do?
Thanks

If you have to "patch" your PSX/PS2 cd backups before they work, AND you have a MOD chip... then I dunno what to tell you.
There is no patching necessary at all unless you want a trainer or PAL->NTSC or something. Or is this on the machine where you're using the GameShark and no MOD? - Gurm |
