My JAP PS2 is not working

I have a JAP PS2 with a origa chip. I use DVD Region X to boot my games. Recently however my ps2 has been stuffing up and the DVD Region X is not booting up straight away. When i start the ps2, instead of going the the playstation 2 screen, it goes to the white dots swirling screen and sits there for a while, and then usually goes through to the 'insert playstation or playstation 2 cd' screen. If i try booting it lots of times, eventually it will work, but thats after lots of goes. And even then, it still goes to the swirling white dots screen and then goes to the region x screen from there. When i do get to the dvd region x screen, it always works, the games never stuff up. Is my laser stuffed?? Can i just reallign it? How would i got about finding these things out and fixing them? Thanks for your time.

It does sound like your laser is going downhill. You can find how to recalibrate your laser in the forum stickies. It is highly recommended that you have a continuity meter to check the resistance of your laser pots. A little turn goes a long way and if you over do it your laser is fry even quicker.

BG is on a distinguished road
I would try cleaning the laser with a cleaning disc BEFORE attempting to adjust the laser.....

Any disc that has little tiny brushes on it. They all seem to be about the same. I use a Phillips Magnovox.
