hello everyone : -) ....... Just a question for all. My backups of
Splinter cell seem to play OK until it asks you to save after each level. When saving is complete the game goes blank and then "Please insert a playstation2 disc appears". After a reset and reload of the game I just saved I can play the next level but when it saves at the end of each level the same thing happens....... my question is is this game protected with "FADE" and if YES does anyone know how to patch it. All my other backups play perfectly PS2 V3900R Magic 3.1 chip Prassi PrimoDVD method Last edited by pottzman; 04-04-2003 at 07:25. |

This isn't a protection of any type. Sounds more like a bad burn. You might want to try reburning and maybe on a different brand of media too.

fade protection only applies on dvd to cd rip. It does not apply on dvd to dvd copying. If u burning a dvd-r then it ain't fade protection.

There is a reason why people who have burned before recomend certain brands, Its because they work and cheap brands don't.
You'll ave yourself a lot of money by simply taking advice and using dvd-r with ritek dye. Regards

As far as I'm concerned, this so-called "FADE" protection is either urban legend or nowhere near as good as it purports to be.
I haven't seen it at all personally (and I've seen a LOT of games/apps go by), and regardless... protection cannot do what FADE claims to do. - Gurm |

Everyone experienced it at one time or another.
The only brands od dvd nedia u should use with ps2 are any that use ritek dark purple dye on them, Traxdata,DVDMaster and Ritek dvd-r. If u take a chance with other media then don't be suprised when u get problems. The getaway and splinter cell are very laser demanding game and therefore needs to be burned onto top quality media or you'll get problems. U didn't mention what version ps2 u have. If it is a version 3 or 4 then u could come across problems anyway as the lasers aren't so good as in versions 5 to 8. Regards

Well duh, when you rip something...
But on the other hand I've heard lots of fun rumors about FADE. How it can keep track of how many times you run something, and get progressively worse. That just CANNOT HAPPEN without saving something to the memory card. I've heard lots of OTHER rumors about what it can do which are even MORE patently absurd. Starts to sound like the Good Times virus. ROFL. - Gurm |

Fade protection works on dates.
If u do a one to one copy of a dvd-r u copy all files including the dates that they were created. If u rip a game ur PC then adds the last date that u messed around with the file and when u run the game it reads the dates of the files compared to what they should be and if wrong then protection kicks in. ( This is what I was told by someone claiming to be knowledgeable anyway!) Also if it reads the ps2 internal time and date then theoretically it is possible that it would get worse and worse the longer u use it but don't quote me on it! So theoretically it should be possible to fool fade protection by simply setting your PC to the correct time and date before ripping the game from dvd to cdr. And thats MY TEN CENTS Regards
