Is it possible for the PS2 to play any form of VCD, or any format that the ps2 will read?

Yes, the ps2 will play avi/divx with the PS2 Reality Player but not vcd.

PS2 will not play VCD. There is a program call PS2Reality that does allow you to play Divx movies and mp3's. The program is very esy to use once you get it going. You will need WinRAR to decompress the files. Once done you get and bin\cue file that is burnt to a disc. This can be used as a boot cd for Divx or mp3. Once the mainscreen appears simply just swap the disc. Also you can then take the files off that boot cd and put them on a disc with the movies or mp3's to avoid the swap. You can find this file here
