You all know what this is about. Many of you want to play pirate games.

The UK Judge who ruled against Channeltech said that the risk of piracy was greater than the mooted benefits of taking legal backups.

You know the Judge was right.

So the Forum's Principals wish to minimise the risk of being closed down because of facilitating the acquisition of chips that a Judge ruled could not be manufactured.

The Forum Principals decided on the rule to assure that this Forum is protected from overt association with potentially illegal matters.

so why are other forums still open and have adverts for chip suppliers?

surely u agrree these would be hit first??

What a weak rule. I just want to say I had no part with it either. I feel that since the people who sell them do not own or work (actually get paid for it) for FileForums then FF should not have any worries.

I think things are getting out of hand with these issues. Should we be worried about Tax Evasion too??

Many people will agree with you Dust. But the Forum's Principals must be the judge of risk to their survivability.

You'' remember that ISONews got closed because of the combination of Warez and Modchip sales. the linkage with Piracy was deemed clear by the US Government and the guy pleaded guilty!

This forum tries to avoid Warez but there is somthing bugging the Forum's Principals that makes them think it is not enough.

So we have the rule. It will stifle say 1% of the repeated enquires on the subject leaving the interesting stuff open for discussion.

No big deal.

Besides, now we don't have to grit our teeth when replying to someone who asks where they can buy a DMS3, the future-proof modchip.
