Question how do I tell what version PS2

I'm sure this has been asked many times before by others, but how do I tell what version PS2 I have?

It's amazing what you can find if you do a little searching.

On the bottom of your PS2 there are black squares. Under each of those squares is a screw.

There is only 6 of those "black" squares on the bottom of my ps2. What's with the 8 black squares/screws that you guys are talking about? Btw my date code is 1C and my serial begin with U1, does that mean I have a version 7 ps2?

It either has 8 or 10. Look again or just post your SCPH #(on the back of the PS2) and I'll let you know what you got.

You want the serial number? Here it is...U1432554

And then there is the barcode number PT214325548 and the datecode is 1C

Wrong numbers. I need the SCPH number. It is just to the right of the SONY in the corner.

I got some bad news for ya...you have a v1. Modding a v1 is pointless cause they had terrible lasers and will have problems booting a backup. Your best option is to sell your PS2 and buy a new premodded PS2 with a Messiah 2.

Yeah I would sell it. Ebay is good if you are signed up. If you buy a new PS2 you will most likely get a new v7. If you buy from a retail store you can see the numbers such as the SCPH # and then you know for sure what version you are getting, but any new PS2 you will buy is almost guaranteed to be a new v7.
