Wharfedale 750 compatability

I have an old Wharfedale 750 (NOT 750 S), its was a great player for its time however i cannot get it to play any DVD - R or DVD + R. Anyone else managed it ?

I stress this is a 750 not 750 s they are very different machines!

Did it used to be able to play these? It is supposed to be compatible with dvd-rw(not -r) and dvd+r. I would try another brand of +r media if you have never managed to get it to play +r or give dvd-rw a try.
