GLH is on a distinguished road
C&C Generals is protected with Safedisc 2.8x.
You can try CloneCD to make a working backup, but you will need a so called "two-sheep" burner.

Look at the website of CloneCD (i think it was www.elby.org) and check if your burner has two sheeps at EFM encoding.

When your burner is capable to do this start clone cd and create a image using the "protected game" - profile.

Need Help copying CC Generals from the good guys... 8-)

Okay,

RincewindTheWiz
BountyWarrior
GLH
Krondike
... and the other experts,

I have been using nocds for years sucessfully but really never made copies of the cds.

I just purchased C & C Generals today and would like to back it up. Seeing I paid the full $50.00 usa for it I would like to protect it...

I am familiar with Vluka's faq, I have read almost every post on here of interest for the last year, yet I ask for your help seeing it is using a newer protection.

I do have most the tools mentioned here in FF downloaded on my harddrive.

What would I do and use to make a usable copy (one I can install and apply a no cd to play without the cd after installing it.)

Pretty please with sugar on top, let me know... in easy to follow steps.

Thanks great ones...

-=SA=-

I have a Lighton LTR - 40125s burner.

@Special Agent

As the game is Safedisk 2.8 I suggest you try out Alcohol 120% as I don't believe Clone CD does a good job of Safedisk 2.8. This is however if you want to make a 1:1 copy, but as you want to use a no-cd crack you should just use the temp directory method.

1) Copy contents of cd to hard drive

2) Create a folder called Crack and put in it the cracked general.exe and the Gimpsrus game.dat file (the deviance one isn't a no-cd)

3) Burn the contents of the folder back to cd again with the same cd label.

Tip:
To get the best of both worlds, if the protection is on cd1 for example, try to copy cd1 1:1 with Alcohol, then use the temp directory method on the second disk.
This way you have the chance of getting a 1:1 copy and if that fails, or you just want to use the no-cd crack, then you can copy it over from the second cd.

Yes a 1:1 (one to one) copy is copying the game exactly like the original. This can be hard to do if you don't have the right equipment. I suggest you read this guide to making 1:1 copies with Alcohol 120%

A no-cd crack is usually a modified version of a certain file of the game (usually the main executable file) with the copy protection and the cd-checks removed from it. This means that you are able to play the game without inserting the cd. Sometimes the user will have to copy over files from the hard drive to the game's folder in order for the no-cd crack to work properly.

Exclamation Generals Alcohol 120%

I have created a good backup using Alcohol 120% and a Liteon 40125S. I was unable to do this using CloneCd. and created many coasters. The first disk is the only disk of the two with any protection. The second disk can be copied using any cd copying software. The first disk is using the safedisk 2.8.... protection.
