What's the difference between DVD+RW and DVD-RW?

Wrong board but... It is just a different type of media. They do the same thing but one is for a -r/rw burner like a Pioneer and the other is for a +r/rw burner like an HP. The Sony dvd burners can do both though.

oops, didn't mean to get the wrong board, one of the two i've been posting on seemed good though.

anyway, thanks a lot. i though i heard discussion that -rw was better than +rw. maybe i was wrong?

-r/-rw media is supported by many more devices, so yes I consider it better.

If your main goal is to archive data, the DVD-R format (Pioneer DVR-A05 or TEAC DV-W50E) is the best choice. 4x burn speed gives you your result in 15 minutes. The time saved compared to DVD+R at 2.4x (over 24 minutes) is not to be sneezed at.
