Wires?

They istallation guide for the Messiah 2 chip suggest that you use 32 gauge enamelled copper wires for installation on everything but the ground and 3.45V wires. Searched all over the local area and couldn't find any. Tried the web and could only find bulk supplies of it. If anyone has a good place to find this wire It would be much appreciated.

Radio Shack.

I installed my messiah 2 pro using 30 awg wire. 30 awg is fine, but 32 awg is easier to solder onto bios legs. But I didn't have a problem.

The trick ? Flux. flux, flux. I used flux paste. Pick it up at any hardware store. Flux the end of every wire, and every pad. Got an old PC video card, or sound card ? Practice on that ! I soldered the hell out of an old 3DFX card of mine.

And while you're at Radio Shack, get a 15w soldering iron, if you don't have one already.

our local radioshacks don't even carry 30 gauge wire. Smallest they had was 24. I have a good deal of experience at soldering these connections now, just need some good wire.

15w soldering iron not a good idea.

Yeah its lower heat but u have to then hold it on for longer to get a decent solder point.

Industrial surface mount solderers use much higher temp and wattage solder irons ( so do I when chipping). That way you line up tinned wire to tinned solder point, apply loads of liquid flux and then just touch the solder iron on the place for the briefest of time. Perfect joint every time with minimum amount of heat transfer.

Never even thought of the radioshck website. Didn't bother getting a 15w iron. Just went out and got myself a 25w that came with a good tip.

I've never had a problem with my 15w iron. I use flux core solder, which has a lower melting point then solid. All my connections are touch solders.

15w is perfect

id even recomend 12w to a amatuer (it will struggle to do ground 3.45)
use solder paste ,touch it with 12w or 15w instant bond

even less heat

be warned make sure u are careful or your ps2 is going to suffer

I had the same problem finding the wire, the guy at radioshack said they did't have any, that's because it's not under the regular wire you should ask for Wrapping wire or wire wrap. They have 50 ft. rolls of insulated 30 gauge wrapping wire.

Eventually found the wire on the web, 32 gauge. Most places refer to it as magnet wire. Used for wrapping in electric motors. Also ordered a 15w iron with a 1/64 inch tip. This should make things alot easier.
