Okay well if you bought that kind of a kit then you did get a crossover cable. It looks just like a normal networking cable, but if you are able to see the wire in the plugs you will see they are not in the same place on both ends.

On a straight cable your wires will be in place like this (this may not hold true to yours but it does when I make mine):
S. Green - Green, S. Blue - Blue, S. Yellow - Yellow, S. Brown - Brown. This on a straight cable, both ends of the cable will be this way.

On a crossover cable the cable will be like this:
S. Green - S. Yellow - Blue, S. Blue - Yellow, S. Brown - Brown.
And the other end of the cable will be:
S. Yellow - Yellow S. Green - Blue, S. Blue - Green, S. Brown - Brown.

So now that I have lost most ppl here. DUDE you got a crossover if you bought it in a PC Networking kit.

I think you find if it came in a Lan kit it'll be a cross over cable not a straight through. A straight through cable WILL NOT work from NIC to NIC, although I've never linked a Xbox

It has to be a cross over. Impossible otherwise.

ok.....networking lesson

a crossover cable is used to hook up two pc's / nic's directly. the wires are switched inside of it.

a straight through cable (also known as a patch, if my memory serves me) is used to plug from a nic to a router. a crossover will not work in this respect. the wires are NOT switched in this setup.

its all very easy to find on the web.

so to plug xbox to xbox, or xbox to pc, use a crossover. if that doesnt describe your situation - use a straight through.

//end lesson

Not 100% true. I have a 24port HP hub I used before I got my switch in to share my cable internet with my computers, on port one you can plug a crossover into, and puch a switch in to tell the hub its a crossover, the light pops on and the computer sees the network. But this only works on port one. I havnt seen very very many others like this, only the high end rack mount units like mine.

XBox Link Cable

I have an link cable for the xbox, am i to assume that it's a crossover cable and that i don't need a hub to connect my pc to my xbox.

If your talking about the "link cable" you bough to connect to xBoxes together, then you you should be able to go rtight from your XBox to your PC.
