DC Games backup using SDK

I have a questions concerning the backing up of DC games using the DC itself:

Has anyone found clear instructions on how to build a image extractor to hook-up the DC to any PC? I found little information on the SERIAL cable method, as well as a faster approach. I'm looking for more detail instructions as to how I can build these devices myself. I've been reading and reading, but still cannot find a detail approach to this method.

PS. I'm not afraid to take apart my DC and test.
