Ps2 Hard Drive?

I notice that on the back of the ps2 network adapter they have plugs for a harddrive...what and when is this going to be used for? if i plug a hard drive into it, can i use it to save games?

At present it looks like there will be three different hard drives availbale to PS2 owners. but each one will be for a specific function and none are compatible with other functions.

1. If u buy a PS2 linux developement kit it comes with a harddrive.

2. Network kit comes with a different harddrive.

3. You can get a hard drive that you can save your game saves onto instead of a memory card.

Unfortunately no one hard drive wil do two or all of the jobs above.
