need some help please...

im kinda new to this stuff so bare with me...

alright...i have a laptop with a dvd player in it but i dont like watching dvd's on it because the screen isnt all that big. I was thinking about getting an external cd burner and a program that will allow you to burn dvd's without the dvd burner...my question is, is there a way to get these burned dvd's to play on ps2? Like is there some program that i can get that wll let me burn it as a dvd and not vcd? or is there somthing i can get to let me play vcd on ps2?

my other question is, my brothers friend has a dvd burner and he burned Man on the Moon for me, he cut out all the extra crap and burned just the movie but it still wouldnt fit on 1 disc...what gives? Its annoying as hell to have a movie stop like that in the middle of it so you can put disc 2 in to finish it...if there is a way to do this then I might spend the extra money and get an external dvd burner...

any kind of help would be awesome

There are some programs that allow you to play vcd on your ps2. You can fit a whole movie onto one dvd. Sometimes it won't fit unless you encode it to lower quality. This takes time and you lose picture quality.

Sorry I meant to say divx. The ps2reality player will allow you to play divx. You can get it here.

I just looked at the DVDXCOPY and I noticed its 100 dollars...does this do perfect exact copies of the dvd and keep it on 1 disc? Because it says "EXACT copy of the original. Nothing is left off the disc" if this works as good as it is described on their site then I think i'll get the dvd burner and this program...

And 1 more question---does anyone think that there will eventually be dvd-r's bigger than 4.7 gb?

Yes it does what it says. I use it myself. You usualy can't fit it on one disc though, you have to split it to two discs. Eventually there will probably be larger dvds they might be called something different though.

DVD X-Copy will make a "ALMOST" exact copy..........

If the dvd that is being copied is too big to fit on one dvd-r then it will split it for you and burn it on two dvd-r's.....

I personally think there will be discs that come out that hold more data than a dvd-r.... BUT I think it will be another format....

Maybe DVD9-R..... Who knows... We will just have to wait and see...

There are dvd9 burners being worked on as we speak, BUT they are a long ways off....(If they are ever released)... The movie manufacturers are fighting it.....

I just read the dvd 2 dvdr for beginers and it explains how to make a dvd9 fit on a dvd5 cd. At the end it says it will play in ps2 but how bad is the quality?

It depends on the size of the original movie. Encoding to lower quality takes a lot of time. I personally am an audio and video freak and would rather use another $1 dvd-r an keep true dvd quality than wait for something to encode to a lower quality for hours. It's really a personal preference.
