Is there a decent avi player for the PS2?

Does anyone know if there's a decent avi player for the PS2, and if so, where can I find one?

cheers

PS2 media player is on www.ps2newz.net
in the download section or look in the "Home Dev forum"
Works with most divx codec's

theres also links in the forum for the "EG Browser" (ps2 Internet browser)
its patched so the setup is all in English, works with the TH3/4 compatible USB modems but not the official Network/56K kit

Neither are Fakes

Just remembered Broad-Q www.broadq.com

Play AVI's off yout PC on your ps2 & TV via Ethernet LAN..

Check it out, as its a commercial product I'd say thats the one to go for, providing u have the network PS2 adapter..

Elkay

has anyone else used this software?

just a question. i have tryed the reality player.. but have only managed to get it to work if i burned a ps2 disk with both the player AND the avi file on it.

anyone managed to get it to work on its own then swop the disks over.
i have hundreds of divx movies on CD's already and it would be more than a waste to reburn all of them with a media player on just so i can watch on ps2.

Ive heard it is possible, with a No-Swap mod only. Im not 100% sure on this though. Also, your current Divx's must be burnt in Mode2 for the PS2 to read them.

This is only what ive heard, but try it out.

What kind of mod do you have?

you need a modchip.

but you will be best off to re-burn anyway since the ps2 doesnt play mode1 cds very well (which PC data cds are burnt)

it skips with mode1 sometimes, mode2 is great, streaming and decent quality for a first release.

i think it looks blocky, but maybe tahts just me. its better to burn dvd movies with DVDXCOPY (they will plya on a ps2 without a mod)

Just off the topic, you have to have your ps2 in the horizontal position to play 8cm cd-r's, true?

Also, wouldnt it be possible to get the player to boot off the MemCard? not just on the new 'DMS3' (or whatever it is), but on any mod? Just work it like the DVD upgrade that comes with the Sony Remote, which copys new drivers to the MemCard and boots off them...

Maybe im just an idiot, thinking out loud

LOL, nice end comment i know the feeling

i dont know about bout sizes, but is an 8cd cd-r a miniCD? if it is, then why are you using that to burn stuff for your ps2?? but yes it'd have to be horizontal.

no, only the upcoming DMS3 will let you boot it from the memory card. no other mod can do that, its the new Dev.olution Mode that allows that.

elkayps2,

Do you mind sharing exactly how you set up the player-only disc? I read the readme file, but couldn't really decipher the instructions for creating a player-only disc. Looked like the instructions were missing or the player+avi instructions were duplicated. I would surely appreciate it, as others here probably would too.

just drag & drop only the player files in the order it says in the readme, build the image then burn it.

apply the LBA fix if you need, as per the other readme.

thats all i did and it works.
