Question play ps2 games without modcip

i have a ps2, and my question is can i play import/backups games
(i don't want to place a modchip.)
without a modchip????

i have read something about a swaptrick???
I have a pal ps2.
and downloaded action replay v2.20 is that enough or do i need a kind off a memory card for the action replay. I must patch the games for the swap trick??

Or are there more options to play games without a modchip?

And does any one know a good site where i can find this info, because each site tells different things.

thanks.

First off, welcome but one thing - Don't talk about downloading software - it's against forum rules!
Anyway, no there is absolutely NO SAFE WAY to play backups. There is something called the knife swap trick but this will F*** you're system up in a matter of tries - not worth it and i am NOT going to tell you how to do this because I don't want to be the one f-ing your system up. Get a modchip. They are NOT expensive and they are SAFE providing you get a good one - one from the Messiah Series is best - contact Charlie or Dust2Dust about this one. These also require no swapping so you do not need your Action Replay 2.2. With other chips you may have to use this which can be a pain but with a Messiah, you just put in your backup and play - It couldn't be simpler!
If you want to back your own games up you will need a minimum of a DVD-ROM drive and a good CD Re-writer. You will then need to rip the games to CD-R (this really isn't simple and it isn't worth the hassle as you have to take all the good cutscenes out of the games). The ultimate toy is a DVD Re-Writer like the Sony DRU-500 or a Pioneer A04/A05. These let you put in an original and do a straight copy - easy and you get to keep the WHOLE GAME! Hope this helps but you DO NEED A MODCHIP - THERE IS NO AND I REPEAT NO OTHER ALTERNATIVE WITHOUT KNACKERING UP YOUR SYSTEM.

thanks, i had hoped there was something. And how do you see the future is it possible to play without a modchip.
I have read there is a cd for the dreamcast to do the job.

For the forseeable future modchips will be the way forward. Some teams have already tried to crack the console with a boot disc namely the Messiah team and failed miserably. I don't think there will EVER be one either but I would LOVE to be wrong. There is a Boot Disc for Dreamcast but SEGA weren't really bothered about that cosole or protecting its games - they were basically glorified Karaoke CD's which any half decent burner can duplicated nowadays. But Sony haven't given up so easily as we can see with the new security mods in the new v7 consoles, but it will only be a matter of time before Games Console Manufacturers realise that spending millions on protection is just a waste of time and money because if it is created by a human - it will be cracked by a human, and I can't wait while this is the case!

So we can brag about spending money on a wicked chip but its all afront cos we all do the knife swap?

GET A LIFE, GET A CHIP!

You could try PS2 Ownz, they have plenty of links to mini sites about these sorts of subjects...
