CD-RWs and protection???

Hi there,

I can't seem to be able to copy something to a rewriteable disk and I was just wondering - Are there any protections that won't work from a CD-RW and would only work from a CD-R?

Any of your thoughs are welcomed.
Thanks in advance,
dnd

You would think not, but there is a theoretical difference between them due to their differing dye characteristics.

An ATIP check based protection (securom2 and latest safedisc2) will deny CDR and CDRW as well.

Personally, I think your CDRW backup is either NOT perfect (e.g. sd2 title) or, the protection knows it not an original due to an ATIP check.

Answer.....try it in a cdrom, not a burner and...

PLEASE POST WHAT THE GAME IS, AND WHAT BURNER YOU HAVE.

sorry to shout, but I get somewhat annoyed trying to help peeps who don't give enough info to begin with.

Hey crispy this is for u.......i have a similar problem and know that atip is not the problem.i have a plextor 24x with 1.02 firmware (1.03 right now)and tried to burn the baldurs gate 2 throne of bhall (laserlock)
The curious thing is that tried to copy it to hd...okay..then burned at 10x to a cd-rw and like original...it works but only in the cd-r unit (like original)(the other unit is a 16x toshiba dvd-rom)but when writting in a blank cd-r it doesn't run anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The cd-rw works like original but normal blank cd doesn't! Do u know why this could be happening?
Thanks!!

Sorry mate, just need to clarify...

Do you mean that you've made 2 copies, one is on a cdr and another is on a cdrw?
And the cdrw works wereas the cdr doesn't??

Ok......

First.....the original game (baldurs gate 2 ToB with laserlock) works ONLY in my cd-r unit (plextor 241040a).It doesn´t work in my dvd unit (toshiba 16x)
Second...i try to copy all the contents of the cd into my hd...(ok but readed by my toshiba dvd rom and blindread because plextor is unable to do it(the tipical blue screen on windows me and then hanging up all the system.....reading with any program[clone, blindread(all the .cue image versions)cdrwin.....and so on])
Then i tried to burn the image with blindwrite onto a cd-rw disc and.....miracle! it works like original......test the protection and bypassed it! but if i burn the hd image that worked with cd-rw into a normal blank cd.....then it doesn't works!!!!!!!!!It works for the cd-rw but not when i copy it into a blank cd!!!!!!!
I burned the cd-rw at 10x and tried in a blank cd at 4x and 12x without success. I have also changed from firmware 1.02 to 1.03 and still unable to play it with the blank cd!

The cd-rw is like original....works under my plextor but not under my toshiba unit

Any help welcomed!
Thanks.
