Reading about the Zenith, it can't really read anything besides a dvd movie and somethimes not even that very well. Couldn't find info on the tv/dvd unit. There is hope for the Toshiba SD2109. People have had had success using +rw after changing the DVD+RW disk from Mode 1 to Mode 2. Somebody also reported after updating their firmware, it played dvd-r perfectly.

Not sure about updating the firmware. You could try Toshiba customer support. I'm guessing you change the mode in the burning software options/prefrences.

Details on Players and firmware

http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php

This is primarily a compatibility list, but it has a "forum" where you can read what others have done, and post your experience as well. They also provide links on hacking the firmware (region free, etc) and where to get firmware updates and how to install them.

Good Luck!

Raist
