Do you have the US version ? It could be that that one is unprotected. Even if it's protected with Safedisc 2, you still should be able to make a clonecd image of your original cd and mount that using daemon tools. There doesn't seem to be a nocd for v1.1 yet, and may very well be that it never comes out.

Noooooo!

I own the European English version; has anyone reviewed the possibilities of a working copy made with tools?

Still no crack, and you can make an image with CloneCD of your original cd and mount that using Daemon Tools, try it.

Could you give me a brief list of the software I need? I'm definitely a noob at attempting to copy the games myself.

Check this thread, the second post is a detailed explanation by me for another game, you have to do about the same thing. Try it out.

Sadly, I've had no success so far: it seems that the European English version has better copy protection. What to do now?

Unless it's Securom New, this should work. Try ClonyXXL and tell me what copy protection it reports.

It'd seems that the copy protection is Safedisc 2.7... What next?

Remember that you have to make the image of the ORIGINAL cd, otherwise it won't work. Oh, and I just figured out the ClonyXXL link in that thread still points to an old ClonyXXL version. I'm going to update that thread, in the meantime you can get the newest ClonyXXL here. Install it, ignore the german comments. When it starts the first time it will ask you to tell it which drive letter is assigned to which drive (it will give you the name of the drives). Assign them like they should be. You now have a german language ClonyXXL, just press on "optionen" and then click on the radiobutton next to the English flag to change the language to english. Now scan the cd with this new ClonyXXL and tell me what it reports.

Still apparently the same results:

Protection: SafeDisc 2.7
CD Type: N/A

Blablabla

Data tracks: 1

(Seven skulls)

Any other figures you need to know?

Well, it should work with CloneCD/Daemon Tools, that's all I know. What happens, does it crash to desktop or does it demand the cd to be inserted ? I assume you already know that you have to reinstall the game from the virtual cd drive, otherwise it'll keep on looking in the old cd drive.
