Yeah sounds like a bad burn. What prog and media did you use?

i have no idea about the media and prog a friend made the backup....i think you're right though its a bad burn...thanks for your help, also...every backup seems to freeze once in a while, this doesn't happen all the time and not in specific places like metal gear....like during a movie sequence once in a while the game will freeze and ill have to reset...this has happened with most of my games, but ill reset and theyll be fine or sometimes it wont happen at all anyway i dont know if somethings wrong with the ps2 or what like i said it doesnt happen all the time and its still playable i just dont want it to get worse, anyway thanks in advance

What color is the bottom side of the media? Dark purple, light purple, etc? Find out what your buddy uses. Your laser might also need to be cleaned.

Darker is usualy better. Try to find out from your buddy what brand media it is and what program he uses to burn them. It is most likely just bad media. The ps2 is pretty picky when it comes to dvd media.

I was refering to the PS2 laser but you can clean your laser by buying a laser/lense cleaner. It is a disc with little brushes on it.
