Help with first burn

I just got my first Pioneer 1A04 tonight and tried NHL 2003 (EA Sports). I used the free DVD-R that came in the package, but when the game boots up, it freezes after the teams take the ice. Its just when the promo clip ends and the game should start. I used RecordNow Max at 1x speed and have the PxEngine utility to split the file into 2 smaller files (PSX_Paul recommended it from his site since I have Windows 98). Any ideas? I think it might be the cheap DVD-R and I was going to order some from Rima.com tomorrow morning. I was pretty impressed that it at least half worked. Please help before my apartment is full of nice new coasters!!

What version PS2 do you have?

You are correct in your assumption that it could be cheap media...

The earlier version PS2's are more prone to not reading DVD-R correctly....BUT you may find the you were right and better media will solve the problem...

There was no name on the DVD-R. It looks pretty cheap though. The actual Pioneer was new, but I think they package it with their own software and sell it as a bundle. Thanks again guys!
