Auto Insert Notification Important?

Is Auto Insert Notification off important to burn a dvd game?
When I turn it off It won't record and my computer won't shut down right. When it's on it will record and my computer shuts down fine. But the tutorials say too have it off. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Chris

Yes, very important. The probable reason for probs on your system is that you have lots of copying software installed on your system and conflicts are occuring. The best thing to do ( as I had to do) is to take it all off then install one at a time and rationalise what you need: eg I had about ten back-up progs on my system and have cut it down to PrimoDVD and CloneCD with InstantCD/DVD as a driver and I got rid of all problems.

If you leave autoInsert Notification on you wil make a lot of coasters as I found out.

Also look at your drive properties and make sure that automatic finalisation box is checked as this can cause havoc with your drive..

LOL

Hey ottoman,

In my everlasting quest of knowledge, I have yet to have a problem with multiple programs on my system. I too have the A-I-N off but only because of habit and that was how I was first instructed about 1 1/2 years ago.

So the problem is not having multiple burning software at all. I tested this on 2 systems one having Windows ME and the other with Windows XP Pro.

I had big snags when I installed an A04 but I was using InstantCD/DVD which seemed to have a problem with every other bit of backup software I had, particularly CDRWIN5 but uninstalled that with no love loss at all. Don't know if Primo has any probs as I keep to two progs now ( well 3 as also have RMN).

Also thought that Primo sucked cos it kept spitting coasters at me until I read a tutorial and did Auto Off and now get perfect burn every time.......Wierd thing was it did work sometimes no probs but other times just wasted a dvdr.

In summary I can only tell you what worked for me and hope it might help others with problems......................

Regards

Ok, I can understand that. But I know a lot of people that dont have problems with multiple software. That is why I try to set things straight.

Just out of interest, I installed PrimoDVD and then when I installed Easy CD Creator Platinum my computer wouldnt recognize either my cd writer or dvd writer, so they do sometimes clash

I wrote a nice long explanation then lost it so this one is gonna be short

ok,
Auto insert needs to be switched off because of the following.

1) Auto insert periodically checks drives to see if there is any data on them. Now windows isn't interested in blank disks but as soon as data starts being wrote to them it becomes interested. When checking the disks contents (to update explorer) it interrupts the writing streams and usually causes a bad burn.

If using disc at once it messes up early on
If using track at once is will be towards the end and you can usually get away with it by closing the session manually. This doesn't come up with COPY FAILED errors, it just happens in the process of burning.

Now this isn't always an issue (i had it switched on by accident for 3 months and never had a problem on my system but it doesn't usually affect high spec systems. and doesn't always affect everyone so please no blasting about how you can write on your 486 with it enabled. i'm only explaining why companies suggest to turn it off.

Hope this helps,
James

Sorry mate! I was a bit vague.

I've got everything up and running. Just curious to see your views on the matrix.

Have you had problems with misalignment etc.
And what would you suggest the best BIOS for the mod. I've flashed it with evox2.5 blue. Is this still the best?

Sorry, shouldn't really be posting this on ps2 board.

Hmm, sorry moderators

My matrix is all good man. I have had absolutely no problems with it. The alignment was simple, hell anyone can do it.

I am partial to the evox2.5 blue, because that is all Ive tried. You may wanna do more research depending if you have a v1.1.

But I like this chip and it is easily upgradable and you can even use that chip to flash your xbox that way you dont need to even have a chip on there. You can reuse the same chip over and over again to flash multiple xbox's.

All set, I got rid of easy creator, and a couple of other one's. I was able to burn my first dvd game and my computer shuts down properly. I have Windows ME.

Thanks Outoman, you were right!

Chris
