psx backup on PS2

what does it mean when a psx game icon is shown in the ps2 browser but it cannot be loaded. i pressed X to load the psx game but it returns to the browser. if there is a problem it should display 'please insert PS CD or PS2 CD' or at least halt at the SP screen right? but it didn't.... so what's happening?

any help would be appreciated!

What mod-chip do you have???
What backup are you trying to boot???
What happens if you put the backup in shutoff the PS2, wait 5 secs then power on???
