And you think the Knife trick is damaging.

Soldering wires and chips into a PC or TV is a completely stupid thing to do unless you are a fully qualified electriction.

Electrocution is among the many reasons not to.

That is why you get someone experienced to do it. The only reason some mod installs don't work is because people try to do it themselves or have somebody who doesn't know what they are doing do it. Or they buy a crap mod. Never had a single prob with mine cause I got a reliable chip and had a pro install it. I guarantee I will far less problems with my modded PS2 that you would doing your knife sh*t. I don't have to buy replacement parts for my PS2. You are just probably a poor guy who talks sh*it about mods cause you can't afford one.

You are very naive.

Just look at cars, there are hundreds of dodgey garages who can fix and install parts for your car.

How many of them are expert enough not to make mistakes? Very few outside the big chains such as Kwik Fit etc.

If Sony were doing it, I would let them. A backstreet amatuer who happens to sell games or fix things part time is not someone I would trust with my PS2.

Neither would I. That is why you go to someone reliable like Bill at freedomlives.com who guarantees their work and actualy tests the system to make sure it is working properly.

You idiot.
Kwik fit good with cars???? Don't even get me started with that.

It doesn't matter what company you go to IT'S THE EXPERIENCE OF THE PERSON DOING IT.

I think you need to start watching a program called FAKING IT.

So you're saying that messing with the mechanism is better than changing the electronic data in the machine?
Well you're damn staying away from my PC. What you gonna do if my dvd drive packs in? Fix it by sticking knifes inside it or take the case off and damage it with dust.

Get a life, This forum is for people that want help on modding. Just because you've probably been kicked off you're MY PS2 IS BETTER THAN YOUR .............(Fill in the blanks) forum doesn't mean you can come here and start mouthing off. Express you're views but don't do it in a way that is slander to other members especially die hard members who do a great deal for this forum.

Oh and i've added the nice dead version 4 message below. And before you start, the chip didn't do the damage. Being dropped from a height did. Hang on, At least i can eat it...............where's the knife

Yes well said Jay, you have a very vivid imagination.

Any sane person would rather damage a cheap drive mechanism then an expensive circuit board which controls an entire machine.

Hunt the brain cell.

Better yet not damage anything at all by having a pro do it. You have to buy replacement parts by doing the knife trick. You don't with a mod.

A Knife Trick with a piece of plastic is far less likely to damage your machine then an electronic mod.

I've yet to hear anybody who does the knife trick properly delcare that it damaged their machine. Wish I could say the same about mods...........

Probably 1 person in this board actually knows how to do the knife trick and has researched it properly. Damaging the laser is complete rubbish and won't happen by moving a white pin with a thin bit of plastic.

You said yourself that you damage the disc tray by doing the knife trick. A mod doesn't damage your laser either unless you buy a crapy neo chip.

The Laser?

More proof that nobody here seems to have a clue what the knife trick involves.

You are not touching the laser, you are moving a white pin which moves all the time when you open the tray anyway.

It's basically like picking a lock, you are moving the lock by hand instead of using a key. This does not damage locks. Quite how this can damage the laser is beyond common sense.

You do not damage the drive tray unless you are very heavy handed.

I never said the knife trick damages the laser. I was saying that mods do not. Which you claimed they do. I am done arguing with you. By all means feel free to argue with your stupid self.

Modding

Alex think about this. If you asked and electrician to choose between having to stick a knife into a whole everytime he wanted to see a certain channel or if he rather try to install a chip on the tv that will allow him to view the channel automatically I am sure he will try to install the chip. If he is worried about safety then he will find someone that has done it successfully and have them do it. He would choose this in a heart bit over sticking a knife in the tv if he is really and electrician.

I completely understand what you are trying to say about safety issues when modding a ps2 because is not a simple thing to do. But that is only a factor if you don't have any experience soldering or working with electric componets and try to do it yourself without first practicing or searching for infomation. And that is why members of this forum try to guide newbies like me in the right direction so we could have reliable people mod the PS2 safely.
