There are EA patches for EA games.....There are Translation Patches (ie.. to convert a JAP game to English speaking etc..) The Magic 3 will play all games without patching but the main one is PAL games.... It will play them BUT they won't display correctly... So the majority of the time, you are correct, no need to worry about patching, but there are certain times that patching comes in handy regardless of what chip you have...
