Using CD-R's on X-Box

I saw a chip for sale for the PS2 that doesn't require sautering(spell?) that will allow it to play cd-r's and cd-rw's. Is there a chip for the X-Box that will do the same? I'm totally green to modding, so something simple that doesn't require bio's flashing or anything software wise.

Yes. That's pretty much what this forum is all about. You need a modchip to play any backups, or out of region games or movies.

Yes - there are no "soldering" modchips.

They suck if you don't want to pay 50+, or solder chips yourself. But I prefer solder, it is more stable.

Oh, and xbox can't read cd-r's. Ever.

Qual:

I don't mean any disrespect, as you're largely carrying this forum all by yourself, but you're mistaken about the CD-R issue.

Any XBOX that has a Samsung DVD drive in it (most made after October, 2002) will read 90% of CD-Rs just fine. Phillips (fairly rare) has around a 50% success rate.

Thompson (the most common of DVD drives, made since day 1) won't read CD-Rs.

You can tell which kind you have by ejecting the tray and looking at the disc area (the middle hole, where the mechanism sticks through the center DVD hole). If it's "keyhole" shaped, it's the Phillips drive. If it's shaped like a U, it's a Thompson. If it's got 2 holes (1 on either side of the middle hole), it's a Samsung.

Clearly, the Samsung is the drive to get. Most of the Xbox bundle packs seem to be coming with Phillips drives, which aren't bad.

Try and avoid the Thompsons.

Ughh....That stinks! I have a U on mine. I just bought mine in November as the bundle pack with those 2 games and small controller. Hey, besides the not being able to read the CD-R's, how is the quality of the Thompsons compared to the other to drives?
