Need Help

Hi.
I am a newbie in copying programs and please help my ignorance.

I have the original CD of a program and the serial number. The original CD contains the installment files.

When I copy the contents of the CD on my HDD the serial won't work.It gives this message:"This serial number has expired..."

Note:The serial gets asked when you run the installment.

What could be the problem and how could I get it fix?How could I install the programm from my HDD(with the files being on my HDD?).
Please could you post some ideas?
Thanks

First of all from curiosity reasons I want to understand why and how could happen this. Then I need it because perhaps next week I am going to format my C: HDD and take to service my CD reader. Because I need the program I need temporarily to put it on the D: HDD so I could then put it on C: while formating D and thus could work on it while I have no CDr.
Are you happy with this?

What do you mean beta software?
I think it's not. It's a complete version.

Which software would that be?

Taking a wild guess, I would say that when the program is copied to the hd, it can't find its cd-key checking dll because it expects it to be in the root directory of the drive. Try copying any *.dll files to the hd's root and see if that helps.

Also, try using subst to create a new drive out of that folder, i.e. if your folder is in c:\ihatethisprog try issuing the command:

subst z: c:\ihatethisprog

and then run it from z

To delete this virtual drive, type
subst z: /d

News

Thanks for the input. I still haven't thought of that but I have some news.

First of all the problem is not the CD because the software developer I found out offers an upgrade version of it(if you have a previous program version) as a download which has the same serial series.

What I found out is that you need to refresh the serial number in the event you find it necesary to reload the program on your 'puter. Once it is loaded and running, you are
set. . . until the next time you have to reload it ei: something crashes, you get a new HDD, whatever. .
So it's a kind of a revolving serial number -every time you have to ask a new one from the developer.

This explains why I couldn't run it from my HDD I guess(the first time I installed it from my CD and that was the first)

I also found out that the serial number expires in 2
weeks if you don't use it, but I am not 100% sure about exactly.

The software developer also say that the installation software has the potential of taking permanent serial numbers.

I am very mad about it as when I purchased the product it wasn't stated none of this mess.

To do my job simple I already need of 1 permanent serial number.
What do you think are my options? Are there any ways to do it?

Which product is it? XTHON 2002 or similar? If this is the case, you need to contact them - they will be happy to give you a serial. Of course, Greek Universities and yellow pages always exist ....

I don't know XThON 2002. Since I format my HDD once a week I can't contact them always. Even if I wanted to do that sometimes will be impossible for me. And what will happen if it comes that they have the problem-go to business failure or what?
I need another solution.Remember:this thing wasn't neither cleared up nor stated with the purchase of the programm.
What do you mean greek universities?

I found a solution but an odd one. If I change the date of my computer near the date of each serial at the time I got the program runs. I use Win 98. Is there somrthing I could do to the program without having to change the date of my system?

Maybe I didn't express myself well but the programm already I bought. The fact is I myself got a bit confused to give explanations about the serial expiration because I didn't know the real source and cause of the problem.

How do I edit now this registry?(repeat I work under win98)
Thnx
