cd backups humms a lot

Hi everyone,

Lately I've been making a lot of ps2 backups and most of them work on my v3 ps2. However, I noticed some humming on several backup cd's. Now I've tried to burn at several speeds (16, 24, 48) and cant really tell why some do make a humming noise. Also the media I use is TDK which should be an A brand.

How fast do you ppl burn your cd's and do you notice a humming sound coming from the drive?

Depends on your CD burner. I have the new yamaha cd-rw drive and the laser is more powerful so I burn at 44x. Other drives may not be able to burn this fast and make a good back-up. I would suggest burning a test game at 2x and seeing if that takes care of the problem. It will take a long time but hopefully the hum goes away. I don't know much about PS2 lasers but it could be the laser since you are burning on quality media.

I'm using a Lite-on 48125s which I bought last saturday so its pretty new. I've tried to burn as low as 8 speed but the drive is still making a noticable humming sound.

Is the ps2 making more noise playing cd backups than dvd backups? I havent played a lot of cd backups and the first ones I got were backed up by someone else and these dont make that humming sound.

The one thing that I have noticed is that the "newer" high speed capable media (32x-40x) tends to be louder when playing than the older slower speed media (1x-16x)...

I burn all my cd backups at 4X....(even though I can burn at 32X)

The ones on the 32X media are noticeably "louder"
The ones on the 16X media are very quiet..

Even with both of the above being burned at 4X....

Try getting some slower speed media and see if that makes the humming go away...
It did for mine...

Are there still discs sold for 1-16 speed drives From a marketing point of view I don't think there will be any but I'll try and see if they are still avail.

Another thing I've noticed is with cd backups intro's/in-game movies tend to stutter a lot. This occurs about every 2/3 sec during the sequence. I believe this is not an issue during gameplay cuz the ps2 has all the data already loaded.
Funny thing is that this problem does not occur with DVD backups.

What could it be?!?!?!!??!?

Yeah... You can find the lower speed disc almost anywhere... At least I can... Hell, Wal-Mart even sells them here.....

The movies skipping issue may very well be media related.... Try to get some slower speed discs and burn at 4X and see if that takes care of it....
