Red Alert 2 uses SafeDisk v2. This causes problems for most Cd-writers (including mine). Even using CloneCd, the Cd-writer is unable to read the weak sectors. One inconvienient solution is to use an emulator like PlayBackup or Insektors. PlayBackup patches the image you make in CloneCd, then you burn this image to a disk. As long as you have the PlayBackup running on the computer, the disk will work normally, as the PlayBackup fixes it 'on the fly'.

I know it's not the most convienient way, but it's the only way I have found so far.

I've backed up Red Alert 2 using the unsafedisc 2_05_30 utility. If you need any help, send me a mail.

ok i can copy the cd but same as you have probs instaling and playing due to sd. i have used
unsafedisc 2_05_30 utility and yes once installed i can stip out the sd code and run it problem is the setup.exe in setup part of cd has sd included as well SOOOOOOOOOOOO

how can you change this on cd?

i ahve tried to copy to hd then onto cd but i get message need cd due to cd info not being copied.

i ahve tried using winiso to edit the iso but after saving it gets copied as a audio cd can you help.

i used clone nero winoncd and cdr to make the iso then win iso to edit and then above software to copy all same result.

ok it is usefull for sd but i really want to be able to succesfully edit cd to keep patches on cd like half-life with its 80 meg dl and to get perfect copies for myself as kids keep wrecking my cds

can you help?

and was using winiso the right way to go?

hi, copy cd_1 to a temp dir ..

use unsafedisc to dump & rebuild setup , delete original setup and rename sdv2.testme.exe -> setup.exe, do the same with ra2.exe (but rename the testme.exe -> ra2.exe)

use nero or something to burn the temp folder back to a cd, with the correct label

then do the same for cd_2 . u can use the ra2.exe u created earlier for cd_2, but it has a different setup.exe, so u have to dump/rebuild that again ..

then the only problem should be the serial ##### in setup, which is a pain in the ass for legit users. grr

bring back doc #####s!

ok now got perfect copy in respect that it runs without need of crack.

i used sis sandra to get the info i needed
volume name
file system
serial number

then built iso from files

no dam safe disk after being stripped now and it runs like a dream. never relised how much that code was effecting video and game performance untill i got it stripped.

thanks for help but do not know why they bother with all this fade safedisc crap. protection only lasts a few months untill peeps know how to beat it. personaly it is ###s that bug me the most and make a game more secure.

ok you can get ### generators but they generally only work in single player games( ok max payne etc) and most peeps who want the full game need it authorised for online play and that is what makes peeps buy the game.

or with me anyway.

so thanks again now my game goes away and i got it without worrying about kids screwing my cds up.
