Question Red Alert 2 Back Up

I am trying to make a back up of Red Alert 2. Is this possible? I have tried so many different things. I have burned it, and you can play the game with the burned cd, but you can not install it. So you would need the original to install the game, and then use the burned copy to play the game. Anyone have any ideas? I have had a house fire and lost everything and I want to have a back up of my software this time, if it is to happen that is.

Thanks,
notix

All Westwood games have their setup.exe protected by safedisc. Try safedisc2cleaner, it's a little program that allows you to get the safedisc protection out of that setup.exe. Always try the decoded executable you get to see if it works. Bools page is here, you can download the cleaner from there. Use this to clean up the setup.exe. You can also use it for the main executable, but it might be better to use an existing nocd for that, you find them here. If you use the 1.006 nocd, the official 1.006 patch (latest) can be found here. So let's recap, You have to make a cleaned setup.exe by using Bools Eye's safedisc2cleaner. I'd suggest you make an extra subdir on the cd, named 'patch' that includes the official 1.006 patch and the nocd for easy installation. This might all be a bit daunting, but begin with using safedisc2cleaner on the setup.exe, burn a cdrw with the new setup.exe in place of the old one and see if that works. You can add the nocd if needed.

Question wierd....

Ok. I have tried Safedisc2Cleaner.exe on the Setup.exe file. I copied the whole cd to my computer, and put Safedisc2Cleaner.exe in the folder. I ran Safedisc2Cleaner.exe from the folder and when I tried to unwrap setup.exe it said "This file is not protected with Safedisk 2." I updated to the newest 10006 version and I put RA2v1006crk.exe in the westwood/RA2 directory. Then I copied Ra2.exe (from that same zip with the RA2v1006crk.exe crack) and I opened RA2v1006crk.exe and click crack. It said crack successful or whatever.. but when I opened Ra2.exe it said "Failed to initialize. Please reinstall." I am pretty sure I have already reinstalled.. but I'll try it again for the heck of it. Any more ideas?

Thanks so much, it's such a hastle to make a simple back up....

you must select the Setup.exe in the Setup\ folder. there's also a setup.exe in the root dir but that one is not SD2 protected.

Question ah... o ok...

O ok. So now I did that. I have setup.exe cleaned on the cd in the SETUP folder. Do I leave the filename to be SD2cleaned.exe or should I rename it to SETUP.EXE? Ok, so after I rename it or whatever, then do I just burn the root dir on a cd? If so, do I install by going to SD2cleaned? And then I should be able to install and play after it is burned right? Or do I need to apply that no-cd crack?

Thanks..
BTW: sorry for asking so many questions, I have just spent hours doing this and I want to make sure I do it right.

Rename the original setup.exe to setup.bak (or similar) and rename sd2cleaned.exe to setup.exe.

Then burn everything back to CD-R. Be sure to use the right label for the CD.

Red Alert 2

Go to Game Copy World Crack page and download the crack you need. You may need Win.ace to open the download. Load the game to your hard drive, then using Nero drag all the game components to burn to a new disk. When you have done this open the fixed exe crack you down loaded and drag it into the new disk your are going to burn. You should be asked if you want to replace the exe already loaded.

When done the disk you should work as a copy.

Nice advice, unfortunately GCW does not have those cracks. Please check details like these before you post advise. Here is the only place with those cracks. Unfortunately, I don't see a cracked setup.exe among these, so notix had to make his own.

Red Alert 2

Their is a exe and no cd crack in gcw. It is filed on the 12th June
2002.

My only error was that it is for the German copy, and not the
English version. My apologies to Notix and all other members.

Question hrm..

Ok. Well, the program install fine, but I now get the problem when I am trying to play. When I am trying to play I get a Windows XP Error (the ones that ask you if you want to send in the error or not). Any Ideas? I do have this one crack, but what do I do with it?

Please be VERY specific with your answers, I have done this a bunch of times, and I want to make sure I am doing it right.

Thanks,
notix

Do the same thing you have done with the setup.exe with the main.exe (whatever it is called).
Use Safedisk Cleaner on it in exactly the same way you done it with the setup.exe - this will get rid of the copy protection. Or you can download the file from GCW or Megagames.

Sorry for not being exactly specific but it's pretty straight forward if you have already been successful with the setup.exe as it's exactly the same method.

I said to be specific!!! LOL, it's ok. What do you mean main.exe? You mean main.exe in C:/Westwood/RA2 ? You mean a main.exe on the cd? Thanks.....

Yes it'll be located in the game directory (C:\Program Files\Westwood\RA2\ - or whereever the hell this game installs ) The file is on the cd as well, but you should just use the one in the folder.
One way to find out what the main file is to right click on the desktop shortcut for it and see where it is pointing to. This is the file you will need to unwrap.
