For playstation 1 games you use CD-R as all of the games are under 800 megs. For PS2 games however there are 2 types. CD-Rom based games and DVD-Rom games. The way to tell the difference is the CD type have a blue bottom and the DVD are either usually silver. It also says either DVD or CD on the back of the case. Any CD-based PS2 game can be burnt on CD-R (Because they are under 800 megs) and DVD games SHOULD be burnt on DVD-R's (They are under 4.7 gigs) There is a way that you can "rip" a DVD game to make it fit on a CD-R but it is not preferred. This is because you loose aspects of the game (like video and sound files) and ripping games can be a lengthy process. Do you have a DVD burner?
For the brand of media you want to buy media that is easily read by the Playstation 2 or has a high reflectivity. The brands that you almost can't go wrong with are verbatim, TDK, traxdata, & princo. DVD games are more picky than CD games. I've never burned on memorex. I've heard that they might be okay for CD games but for DVD I would go with one of the brands listed above. This is a long post but in depth hope it helps!!!! Other Mod Guru's help me if I am off track!
