Have you tried experimenting with the sound hardware acceleration ? You can find it, by using Start Menu/Run... and typing dxdiag.exe. The sound acceleration is under the "sound" panel. Other games, like bf1942 for example, need this.

Experiment = put the slider down a notch and see what result you get, and maybe try another notch down, and another..... I'm not promising anything, but sometimes this fixes slowdown problems. If that doesn't help, I really don't know what else. Video card drivers ? Maybe the expansion pack is too heavy on your machine ? Tell me how the original ran, was it really smooth or was that one having (lesser) problems too ? Expansion packs usually are harder on the machine than the original, because the developers add more eye candy and extra AI and stuff

ok:
the first one ran real smooth and i had it full out with the best game speed, detail, sound. had them all maxed out. it seems to me that it is the sound that might be holding it back, it cuts out now and then, and sometimes i cant hear my gun fireing. but im not sure with that. |

Unless you get some results with changing the audio acceleration slider, I'm going to have to assume the developers have added a lot of eye candy that makes the game way more demanding than the original. Maybe someone with a comparable system (or even less) wants to make a contribution with how smooth it is on their system ?

Yea.. it seems they've added a lot more decals and effects in this one. On my current system I don't experiance any lag aside from ping.. But I'm sure if I booted it up on my 'ol 550 w/ voodoo 3 3500.. it would be slow as hell. Expansion, I mean. The original ran fine. Hmm.. I'll give it a test tonight.

I tried it out last night, and it was almost unplayable. Major slow down, SP & MP. Up close gun fights = me dead 99.9% of the time.
This was in 640x480 with everything at minimum =/ |

So, discussion closed, it's time to upgrade. I hate to be the bringer of bad news, rcillig, but after Xero's experience I don't think you have much hope of smoothly playing it on your current setup. I'd advise a geforce 4 ti4200, it's the best price/quality card out there at this moment, and I'm convinced that coupled with the rest of your rig, it will allow you to play MOH:SH at a decent framerate.

Damn ! I should have thought about that. Well, there's no real development for TNT2 anymore in the drivers, and the unified character of nvidia's drivers make it so that new code for new cards may hamper the performance of older cards in the same drivers. I think I once saw a recommendation for the 21.xx drivers as being the best for TNT2. If you're happy about your performance now, maybe we can close this thread
Oh, what drivers do you use now ?
