Whats the best half life version i should buy if i just need it to play counterstrike?

Which package has the most updated version of counterstrike?

Is Half Life: Generations the most recent of them?

Just get any of them. Whatever version you get, you will still need to download a patch to get them to the latest version, there's no way to avoid this I'm afraid. This is because there are still new patches being released from time to time. Just download the latest half life patch and the full cs version.

There have been several different versions of the Generations Pack. The most recent has a Blue Cover (Indicating that the addon Blue Shift is inside). Get that one.

If all u wanna play is Counter Strike though. Dont buy the Generations Pack. Just buy the Budget version of Half Life, and download the mod version of Counter Strike.
Your looking at least 200 megs worth of downloading.
Or get the latest edition of any popular PC Games mag and get the patches from there.

Latest Half-Life (v1.1.1.0) - 82mb

Counter-Strike Mod (v1.5) - 121mb

Although I havent purchased it in a while, PC Gamer (The UK version) always used to come with the above patches practically every month.

U might want to wait a bit though, new patches for Half-Life AND Counter-Strike are just around the corner. Its been about 6 months since the last update. Which in the world of Half-Life and its mods is a bloody long time.

Magazines wont carry the new patches until say January next year. Patches are due end of this month.

hey switch2g00d dont buy the halflife if u are going to play CS only... just go get a HalfLife Counter Strike Retail, its a full install of cs , when it comes its already version1, just go download the patch to version 1.5 the file size is only 116MB , compare to the half life then install mod u need to download near around 200mb bcoz of the stupid half life patch that include rubish inside until it gets to 80+mb , & every time CS update u need to download the half life patch for it , just go get the HLCS retail then u can just download cs patch to update the game every time when CS has new version, hope u understand what im saying dude :P u can email me if u wanna understand more Lyle_Asd**********com

just to make it clear there is 2 version of CS
1, Half Life MOD CS <- need 2 patch to get to cs 1.5
2, Half Life Counter Strike Retail <- full version dont need HL, 1 patch to cs1.5

CS Retail cannot be purchased seperately from Half-Life in the UK. Taking his response to the mag question, I'm assuming that he's in the UK.

U forgot to mention that there are numerous problems with the Retail release (and its subsequent patches). The biggest of which is game servers automatically kicking players because they do not have all the maps. Which means downloading Map Packs AND Map Fixes. And lets not forget the WONet problems.
Even people who own the retail release do not bother with it, because its stupid.
Also why the hell rename the guns for the retail, not a problem, but still annoying.

i think ill just buy the generations pack.... that way all i need to d/l is the 116 megs patch and some map packs right?

Yeah do that instead. Then u get to enjoy Opposing Force, and Blue Shift as well.

Why u want to Counter-Strike, I dont know. Full of cheaters and moaners.
