clone help

Trying to burn an archive copy of morrowind and during the write process cdclone states: "medium error: write error-padding blocks added (3:0x0c:0x0a). I'm using a Yamaha crw8824s which is listed as compatible on the cdclone list. I have not updated the burner driver...thought I'd start here first.

I've never tried to use this program before but I just would like a back-up copy of this game since it appears we'll be playing a lot/ long time too and there's a good chance we'll scratch or otherwise damage the cd. Any help is greatly apreciated for ways to achieve making a copy. Thanks.

That error message is just another meaning for a buffer underrun.
i.e. the data from your HD isn't getting to the writer quick enough to prevent it running out of stuff to put on the cdr.

Close down all background tasks (AV software, screen savers etc) and turn down your write speed.

didn't work...

Thanks for the reply! But I did what you advised and although it completed the disc, it still doesn't work. When attempting to start the game with the copied disc in the cd drawer, the game will not start. No error message just won't start. Any ideas?

Your initial problem was buffer underrun.
This new problem is that whilst your cd writer will work with CloneCD partially (i.e. in SAO RAW mode), this isn't sufficient to copy 1:1 safedisc 2 games (which morrowwind is). Your burner must be able to do dao-raw and efm encoding.
Safedisc 2 is very hardware dependant. You have 3 options.

1. Buy a new burner

2. Install daemon tools and run your game from a clonecd image file saved onto your HD

3. Use bools eye's safedisc removing app to check what version of sd2 this game is protected with, then you may be able to removethe protection with this snazzy piece of coding.

Thank you!

Thank you for the knowledge. I'm not sure what any of it means but I think there's enough info to start researching and, reading. I'll post if I figure it out and get it to work.

Thanks again.

Good man.

Here's a very good article about the different writing types..

http://knowhow.cdfreaks.com/article.php?ID=118

In essence, your writer fails because it cannot physically place the correct errors onto cdr media, no matter which software you use. The problem is not the reading, but the writing to a cdr.

As for daemon tools (DT)...it is a software which emulates a cdrom. So, copy a cd to your Hard Drive with CloneCD, mount it with DT, and you can now use that image as if it was a real cd in a real cdrom. All protection characteristics are still there.

as for efm encoding....sufficed to say it's another protection trick which causes many burners to write the wrong data on a certain part of a disc. Only some can write this kind of data correctly.

So sadly your burner fails on two key parts.
1. not writing DAO-RAW
2. Unable to do efm encoding correctly.

Hope this all helps you understand

ok try

1. Try BlindWRITE worked for me when CloneCD failed!!! Hope your burner supports DAO-RAW mode... U will find out!

2. If not use Daemon TOOLs get a dump image of the CD!!!

3. When coping using method 1. dump the image to HD, do not do a cd to cdr copy on the fly.

Thanks everyone!

Here's what ended up working just fine for me: The ojective was to protect the CD in case I need to re-install the game on a new PC, or if my hard disc fails, etc... I'm not trying to mass produce copies for sale or to give to my firends, I believe the devolpers deserve to earn a profit and a living from their work. But it also seems fair that we owners have the right to protect and always have a backup copy of what we bought.

So, I downloaded a "patch" that allows the fully installed program to run without the CD! Now I can play the game and keep the disc safely tucked away. Bethesda gets their money and I keep the cd somewhere safe. I've had damaged game discs before and it's not easy to obtain replacement ones sometimes.

Thanks for all the help, it worked!!
