I'm using the first chip that was available to play DVD backups, and I'm pretty sure it's a NEO chip. I basically disk swap with DOA 2 Hardcore. I don't need to hold reset or do anything special. Just boot with AR2, put in DOA, wait 10 seconds, continue and change disks when the tray opens and closes automatically.
Here's my trouble, a few games I have backed-up from my originals, Vampire Savior, NBA 2K3 stop after the screen turns black when I hit "X" to load the game from the AR2 menu. X-Men never makes it past the AR2 loading screen. And, NBA Live 2003 stops on the NBA Live loading screen after the game boots. I'm assuming I need a patch for the NBA Live because Tekken 4 did the same thing until I applied the EA patch. There are no patches I've seen for the these games though as of yet. I tried the generic universal and regular EA patchers on NBA Live, but both lock up after I hit the patch button. All the other 200+ games I've backed-up work and load fine. The guy at the local mod shop seems to think the machine just has trouble from all the swapping and recommended standing the PS2 vertically, but I had the same results. I used a DVD lens cleaning disk also, but it didn't change anything. Eventually I'm gonna replace the PS2 and get an up to date mod, but anyone have any ideas for now? I just dished out some money for a modded XBOX (decided to act while the modding and playing is easy), so I hope I can get some more life out of my PS2 before I "upgrade". Thanks
ps - I back-up my games with CDR now because I'm waiting for a multi-format burner (maybe Sony's new offering?). I've burned on every size disk with every speed with every configuration of the latest FireBurner and Nero. It's driving me crazy! Maybe I should have waited for the no-swap mod.
Atleast the XBOX has it now.
