How many here own dvd burners?

How many?

I mean: you spend so much money on the hardware (console + mod chip).. then you don't wanna play "watered down" versions of the games on CD-R do you?

To get the most out of the console, you'd want to burn them to a DVD, right?

There are "some" games that are originally on cd and not dvd that are pretty good...

I understand your point though... Most of the NEWER/BETTER games are on dvd....

I'm awaiting delivery on the Pioneer A05... So YES....A dvd burner is definately the way to go...

Since we all agree that a dvd-rw is the WTG: couple of questions then:

1. how long does it take to rip a ps2 game to your HD?

2 how long does it take to write a ps2 game to dvd-r?

3 Do you need a mod chip to play games on dvd-r (i think so) or is that only for people wanting to play games on cd-r?

I don't think we endorse DVD-RW. It has poor reflectivity and works only occasionally on v5 and above.

DVD-R is what most of us recommend. Current DVD-Rs (4th Generation) can write at 2x speed (which is equiv to 12 x CD-R speed) and you need a modchip like Messiah.

Thanks, i will read Charlie's post.

My friend has a cendyne dvd burner (don't remember the specs) but it took 45-50 mins to rip a dvd!! (was a movie). My Pioneer 16x dvd-rom can rip in 10-12 mins. For such an expensive piece of equipment, 45 mins. is too long IMO.

Ive got a Pioneer 104, works perfect everytime. Used to use nero and it took ages to read dvd image to hdd but Ive now changed to PrassiPrimo and can now use my other dvd reader to read the image to hdd in less than half the time, and I also get a better burn

So how long does it appx. take to make an image of the dvd to your HD? And then this image can be burnt directly as a playable game to dvd-r?

Maybe i was doing something wrong: but i was ripping all files on a movie DVD to my friend's HD with his cendyne burner using Dvd Decryptor and it took 45-50mins!!

What are we talking about here? ripping a game or a movie?

The speed depends on the DVD reader your using, typically a DVD based game of 4.5 gb takes approx 25 mins at 2x speed and it takes approx 50 mins to burn at 1x speed

i plan to use a dvd burner for games only.. i don't watch dvds anyway.. just convert them to SVCDs.
