Why no Securom new unwrapper?

Is there a technical reason why nobody has written a securom new unwrapper? Is the protection more advanced or complex than SD2?
It seems to be the latest fashion amongst games developers and is taking over from SD2. Perhaps that is because SD2 was so decisively beaten by coders (who I am very grateful towards)?

Dang, I'm sorry for my previous comment. The hint was that its damn difficult to make a unwrapper for SecuRom New. This has been mentioned in other threads.

There are securom "new" unwrappers in existence but sadly not for public consumption.

These are produced by the crack teams to speed up crack releases. They don't release them cos the phrase "he who controls the unwrapping, controls the warez" is sadly apt these days. Too much competition and not enough sharing of ideas.

The other argument is that if these are released, then the protection compies can see how they work and produce a more complete protection scheme.

I totally agree with your second argument: By not releasing the program(s) to the public, crackers may be able to continue crack the protection. Maybe that's why there are no cracking tuts on Securom New

The protection used to be quite "ugly" but still fully reversable. Too bad, it looks like Sony really try to piss us all off nowaday. I haven't really checked it out since they introduced the ATIP-crap.

I think also the lack of tuts is down to not many games being protected by securom "new" and even then, it was piss easy to copy.
Even now with all the problems that developers have had with the latest incarnation of securom (i.e. the one that appeared to be very difficult to copy), it is likely that safedisc will continue being the "mug's" choice of protection.

as long as safedisc remains as easy to apply to a disc as it is now, it will remain numero uno, and i thank the computer gods for that.

i agree... Safedisc is the most popular protection at the moment and i think it will be like this for a while.

securom has become more popular the last months... last versions cannot be cloned, but also cannot be read from an original cd sometimes

i really wonder what Safedisc 3 will be

Hmm. It'll certainly be interesting to see if they can push the boundaries of the orange book any further.
Just look at this latest securom. Deffo hard to copy, but also hard to read with all cdroms.

One of these days they'll realise how fruitless all this protection is.

As M$ has just found out with its XBox. £60 chip, fitted in minutes, allowing all copies to be played etc.
