Just keep this in mind before you buy a new card:

All MX Geforce cards are cut-down versions compared to Geforce TI 4200 & 4600, that's why they are much cheaper. Also most MX cards have some compatibility problems with DX8.1

Just wait for the price to drop, read reviews and never buy a card as soon as it gets out - simply because you will pay a lot of money and you don't know if it is any good!

The best card out there at this moment is the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. However, ATI has a long and messy history of delivering crap drivers so you couldn't use their cards. Nvidia has much much better driver support. ATI claim they won't do that again but I'm waiting to see if the drivers for the 9700 actually get better support than in the past. Nvidia's NV30 WILL be better than the 9700, but it isn't here yet and will not be for quite a few months.

If you're choosing between a radeon 8500, 9000 or lower and a geforce 4 ti card, get the geforce 4. It all depends on how much money you've got

there are so few games on the market that actually take advantage of directx 8's capabilities, and directx 9 probably wont become very useful, until the graphics card companies offer the game programmers a higher level language for programming effects into their games. wait for a card that offers this to developers, and oooooooo baby.....sweet looking games.

what the hell ... CGS got hard hit on the head!!!

the onli difference betwin a normal gforce and a mx vertion is the speed and sometime the memori type to make it cheaper

i actually try in (two years) a lot of game and a lot of time (im a bad guy) that was beta vertion the test vertion given by the compagni get on pear to pear share

thats mean a lot of game whiout good driver or compatibiliti ane they all works great
and i pass throug direcX7 to 8.1 witout any problem

anyway

DONT BE A FOOL DONT BUY A "ALL IN WONDER" ... if u want to have a bad card that dont play all the game keep your tnt

and DONT BUY YET a big card that gone a eat all your money and be outdated in a few mounth

trust me buy this geforce 4mx 440 or 460 is the best for the cheap price
it can actualy run EVERY GAME whit average resolution and very good speed whit good driver and dual scren view for less than 125$$$$ (depend in which contry u r im from canada)
think the usa price can be around 70$$$$

even the best gforce4 ti are not so good at all they cost to much and they not so betther than the gforce2

betther whait for the best to come
and for shur all the price gone a go down

sis
3d lab
matrox
and some other i forgot ... gone a make a come back try to beat the two gian NVIDIA and ATI whit new gpu

u gest what is mean ... competition=price shut down...to beat competition

actually, mx cards dont have ANY pixel shaders on them, which defeats the purpose of buying a high end card, as pixel shading is used from directx 8 (correct if wrong) on. i believe the geforce 4 TI chips actually have 2 parts for pixel shading, as opposed to the one on the geforce 3 (and none on geforce 4 mx)...which makes the geforce 4 just a slightly faster geforce 2 card.

Exclamation

just going to put in my 2cents
i got a geforce 2 mx 100/200 64mg and it does a bangup job
you will need to consider how much $ you want to spend, what your monitor is capable of, and what your puter is capable of
try to upgrade evenly
p4 1.6ghz
vid (i already stated above)
512mg ddr (pc 2100)
i'll probly get ti4600 when it hits the $200 price range

Just throwing my 2p in. But peeps like GCS and podunk are right, the MX cards are very stripped down versions of Nvidias 'Hardcore' Gamer cards. Wouldnt listen to much of what benyhill says. He BS's all over the forum.

BTW: Assasin already mentioned in another thread that he purchased the ATI 9700 Pro.
