I have a PS2 version 30001-R V5. I bought the magic 2.0 chip. There are some points on the board with no solder on them, Some are near a chip, and there's some on the other side of the motherboard. They look brown. I hear you need to put flux on it, but I have a practice motherboard, and I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. Do I have to let the flux sit for days or what? I don't want to fry the motherboard. Also, could I just gentley touch the spot with the iron, with solder on it, and do it that way?? I'm excellent at soldering, but I've never soldered to these points before. Please Help!!!!! Also checck my other thred on finding a new PS2 SCPH 30001-R motherboard. Please respond at infidel80**********com Thank You

Dude, I soldered my Magic 2 chip into a V7.
8 hours of torture and a lot of oppertunity to wreck the system. Best bet to all....pre-modded. If you must solder your PS2 use a good magnifier, like the ones a technician would use, a 15 watt iron, Console 24.com gives you the wire and solder. The rest is a lot of patience. There are parts of the actual chip that need soldering and the trick is to tin the wires and the tip of the iron (very Fine Point) then touch the iron to the part of the board then the tinned wire to the board. it may take a few attempts. Also make sure the wire is secure if you can wiggle it off then it was a bad connnection.

I beleive Charlie_PS2 said it takes a professional installer around 3-4 hours....So if your not that good at, it could very easily take 8 hours....

Ok, I see the diagrams for the chip being installed. But alot of the wires are bare??? What if they hit eachother? will it short out the machine?? I've went ot my local Radio Shack, and purchased intercom wire, I strip the sheilding off the ends so the copper is showing. Is the type of wire ok for the job??? But my main question, is if the wires are bare, will it short out the machine??? Thanks again.

"purchased intercom wire, I strip the sheilding off the ends so the copper is showing. Is the type of wire ok for the job??? "
I guess as long as the wire is a shielded type and 22ga/32ga you should be alright. The pics i have seen all show the wire covered and not bare. Anyway whats this about "glue drying"? |

What is sheilded?? I figured that was the plastic around the copper wire... And if you onto www.gamegizmo.com and check out the PDF formatted instalation diagrams, you see bare copper wires and 3 to 4 "Sheilded Wires" going from the chip to the PS2. What is sheileded, and how much do I need to spend on these wires???? ARgh...Thanks Guys

shielded wires prevents interference with other electronic stuff. Speaker wires are usually shield to prevent 'noise' from the TV, etc.
Someone referred me to these wires which i am goona pickup today from radio shack. Enter these #'s on their website to see what they look like. Should be in the stores. 22ga wires(3.3v & ground) 278-1218 32ga wires 278-501 |

The wires are not bare the are covered with enamel which has to be stripped to reveal the bare copper.
