laser problems

I have a pS2 with NEO4 fitted which is having problems as far as the laser not turning on. I ordered a new laser and put it in the PS2, but the laser still doesnt turn on. Do I need to calibrate this laser? And if so, how do i do it. The turning spindle doesnt turn, but the laser props up a few times and then stops. Is there something else that could be causing this problem?

You aren't describing anything that's recognisable.

Please run the disk with the cover off. Put the white cone on top of the disk in the drive to achieve this. It's magnetic.

Then watch what happens and report exactly what you see when you boot.

Hi all,

I have a PS2 with a NEO4 chip installed. Recently my PS2 stopped reading anything from original dvd's to copied ps2 games. It sounded like it wasn't spinning the discs & I thought my laser was burnt out. I purchased a new laser & installed it but it still doesn't seem to work. The disc doesn't spin & the laser doesn't seem to turn on.(I think a blue light should illuminate the laser). Power seems to be getting through as the spindle turns momentarily then stops & the laser moves up & down a few times then stops as well. Can anyone help?? Is there another problem it could be??? Does it have anything to do with the power or maybe some wires with my chip???

if you replaced the laser then I strongly suspect the orange ribbon cable that goes from the laser unit to the PS2 motherboard.

Most likely damaged and needs replacing or, if you'r lucky, not properly seated.
