Unhappy Is this a Safedisc Issue or is it me?

First of all thank you in advance for your future and past support.

I have installed Divine Divinity on my machine with a Creative 52x and a Sony CRX 140E, installed fine but when launching the app only get the splash screen for a blip, then nothing, nada.

Thinking it was my CD drives/copyprotection I bought a new CDrom Drive today a LiteOn LTR 165H as well as a new burner LiteOn also LTR40125S. (CloneCD says it can read Safedisc2)

The same problem is occurring...so its not the cd drives. Then I installed DD on my Dell laptop which just barely meets the requirements and the game runs fine.

What gives? There must be some file/program etc that is on my gaming rig that causes DD (and the other titles) to not launch? If this is copyprotection is it possible that these 4 different drives couldn't handle it. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to what might be conflicting DD and how I might look for such a file/program? I have made sure that no programs are running in the background. Greater than 90% of system resources are available.

I have done some registry searching (not sure if I was right or complete) for anything relating to burner software.

I am so completely frustrated. I must find the answer or I may not be able to run any new games as this has happend with Neverwinter Nights and Morrowind as well. I had to get patches for those to work.

BTW: These are the original discs, not copies. I want to run the originals, though I want to be able to use my version of CCD to make working backups, but if they cant run the originals how can they make a working copy.

Again, thank you in advance for your kind assistance!!! Anything you might offer will be truly appreciated.

Uninstall emulators such as Daemon Tools, Insektors, and PlayBackup.
The copy protection has blacklisted these programs so if they find a trace of the program installed, then even original games do not run.

You could also just update to the latest versions of these programs as they unblacklist themselves by changing a few filenames etc.

How do i confirm I've removed all traces

I could use some guidance on this. I downloaded/paid for online version of Clone CD but have uninstalled it. The Setup EXE is on my desktop though. IF I blow it away I'll lose the product.

I am thinking that you're right, there is some trace of a program somewhere, could you walk me through how to find out?

Thank you.

No no, don't uninstall Clone CD as it isn't blacklisted as it's not breaking any laws as such.

The three programs I mentioned above should provide uninstallers - so try them. Also, some of the programs install a driver or something that may have to be disabled also (see the program's options).

If you can't find the programs......

I had exactly the same problem in the past with Age of Sail 2 and Grand Prix 3.

The problem was the Gravis drivers (v4.20 & v4.22). So if you have a Gravis joystick/pad get the latest v4.50 drivers that work ok.

Unhappy Thanks but no difference

I appreciate the Gravis suggestion. I did download the latest version and tried reinstalling Divine Divinity but no luck.

Still just get the splash sreen for a sec or two than nothing.

This is ridiculous. I wish they had tech support in the US....Only Germany number and awful online support.

Typical response is 3-5days. Geez!

So you have a Gravis joystick/pad....

Uninstall COMPLETELY all Gravis software first (Gravis Xperiance) and try your games BEFORE installing any new Gravis drivers/software. If your games work without them then you know what your problem was!

Gravis drivers are very buggy so v4.50 that works for me may not work for you....

It took me a month to discover that these drivers were causing problems with some games. Also shutdown any applications (antivirus e.t.c) that run in the background...
