WOW-Neither cd mate nor clone could make a backup copy of battlefield 1942!!!

As always, I have kids. I try to protect my gaming investments by making backup copies and using them instead of the original. So, I tried to make a back up copy of Battle Field 1942, which I just purchased two days ago. I used both CD Mate and Clone CD. Neither one of them worked. If possible, please give me some suggestion on how to make all of this work. I wasted a totally of 9 blank CDs trying to get this thing to work, but I finally decided to throw in the towel and see if I can get help. Is there a new security technology that is being used? If so, is there anyway around it. Thanks.

As a quick guide for you, download Clony XXL and let it transfer the settings over to Clone CD by clicking on the Clone CD button. With the Plextor, AWS will have to be ticked (Clony will do this for you anyway so don't worry). Also I recommend reading and writing at a lower speed if your first attempt proves unsuccessful.

Now when you have finished, remember that there will be an ATIP check.
Explanation:
Every CD-R contains an ATIP - this contains info on dye colour, length, manufacturer etc. Pressed cd's (originals) don't have an ATIP as they are pressed so don't need one. Most of the new games have a secondary protection to check for an ATIP; if an ATIP is found then it knows it's a copy. The problem with this protection (and it's the main reason why it's a secondary protection) is that only cd-writers can read ATIP; normal CD-ROM's cannot.
So the solution is to play the game in a CD-ROM. For those without a CD-ROM drive, then Hide CD-R Media is the solution as it hides the fact that the cd has an ATIP (works like an emulator).

Exactly what is Alcohol 120 and what does it do?

Copy protection based on the bad sectors digital signature and EFM coding. Copying is hardware dependant. For a list of recorders that can copy SD2 look here: http://elby.ch/english/products/clone_cd/writers/a.html
Check Correct EFM- Encoding section:
- two sheeps = good, no problems, don't use Bypass EFM Error
- one sheep = almost good - You can copy SD2 upto 2.40 (and probably 2.60 and 2.70 too) without problems - don't use Bypass EFM Error for them, for SD 2.51 You'll probably need this option turned on
- no sheeps = without Bypass EFM Error You'll fail to produce a working copy (with this option You may fail too anyway)

Copying:

reading:
Read Speed: Maximum*
Skip reading errors: Yes
Fast skip error blocks**: Yes
Read Sub-Channel Data: No

Can someone tell me what is EFM encoding? What is two sheep? What is one sheep? Better yet, what is no sheep?

Last, where and how do tweak read speed, skip reading errors, fast skip error blocks, and read sub-channel data?

I went into the settings in clone cd and I did not see any of the above setting?

The explanation of the sheep scale is right there for you

- two sheeps = good, no problems, don't use Bypass EFM Error
- one sheep = almost good - You can copy SD2 upto 2.40 (and probably 2.60 and 2.70 too) without problems - don't use Bypass EFM Error for them, for SD 2.51 You'll probably need this option turned on
- no sheeps = without Bypass EFM Error You'll fail to produce a working copy (with this option You may fail too anyway)

Your Plextor has 'one sheep' which means it is capable of almost perfect EFM coding (Eight-to-fourteen modulation in case you wanted to know).
Put simply, you should enable AWS in Clone whilst burning.

If you follow the basic steps I outlined in my previous post, you shouldn't have much problems. The two programs you need are Clony XXL and Clone CD. Clony XXL will identify the protection on the disk and can pass the settings needed over to Clone CD.

To change the settings in Clone CD, right click on a profile and select edit (or create a new one).

Please also, search and read these forums and the articles at www.gamecopyworld.com

Made a perfect 1-1 here with Clony XXL, Clone CD (AWS) and read at 4X Plextor 40X CDRom/Write at 12X Plextor 12x10x32 CDRW.
Works fine, no problems.

ginfest1, which version of clone cd did you use and clony XXL did you use? If possible, can you give a step-by-step process how made a copy of battlefield 1942. I tried to follow the suggestions made and still I am unable to make a single copy. Maybe your explanation may help. By the way, what is AWS and how do you access it?
